The #1 Train Booking Mistake in India
Every month, thousands of passengers miss their trains because of the Midnight Date Trap. When a train departs between 00:01 AM and 03:00 AM, psychological perception of "tonight" conflicts with the calendar date, leading to booking for the wrong day.
The Golden Rule: 00:00 Rollover
Indian Railways strictly follows the 24-hour railway clock. The calendar day flips at 00:00 midnight.
Suppose you plan to pack your bags Friday evening and go to the station around 11:30 PM to catch a train departing at 00:25 AM.
If you book Friday, your train already left 24 hours ago (on Thursday night / Friday early morning).
The 3-Point Pre-Booking Checklist
- Check the 24-hour clock: 00:15 is 15 minutes after midnight, NOT afternoon.
- Check intermediate halt day: If you board at a station on Day 2 of the train's run, your journey date is the date the train reaches your station, not when it originated.
- Check charting time: Midnight trains have their charts prepared at 8:00 PM the evening before. Check confirmation before leaving for the station!
